The most transferable skill in tech: query, analyse and design real databases with PostgreSQL, right in your browser.

Every app you use is a pretty face on top of a database, and SQL is how you talk to it. It runs your bank, your phone, Instagram, Reddit, airline bookings and hospital records; it appears in more job offers than almost any other technical skill, for back-end and full-stack developers, data analysts, data engineers, QA testers and product managers alike. Born in the 1970s and still growing, SQL works almost the same in PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, SQLite, BigQuery and Snowflake, and PostgreSQL, the database you learn here, is the most used and most admired database among professional developers. No installation needed: every lab runs a real PostgreSQL in your browser and checks your result rows instantly. No programming experience needed either. You start with SELECT, filtering, sorting and the famous NULL, then string, number and date functions, CASE, aggregates, GROUP BY and HAVING. You combine tables with inner, left, self and cross joins, write subqueries and CTEs (including a recursive one), and discover window functions: rankings, running totals and month-over-month growth in a single query. Then you build databases yourself: data types, CREATE TABLE, primary and foreign keys, UNIQUE and CHECK constraints, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE and upserts with RETURNING, normalisation and ER diagrams. Finally you go professional: indexes and EXPLAIN (a query going from 45 ms to 0.05 ms), transactions, isolation and locking, views, connecting from C#, Java, Python and Node.js with parameterised queries, and stopping SQL injection for good. All along, you work on SpaceTime, a booking platform for music studios, meeting rooms and event halls in Lyon, Montréal and Casablanca, founded after The Incident: one room, one evening, a yoga class, a heavy-metal rehearsal and a wedding rehearsal. By the end, your database makes that impossible, and it is the same database used by the Full-Stack path's reference app. Every lesson has a main video, a "more examples & common pitfalls" video, a quiz after each video and an in-browser lab with full solutions, plus "pause and find it" moments, predict-the-result challenges and find-the-bug missions.
