Learn the language of Unity games, enterprise software and the Microsoft cloud: from your first line of code to a complete object-oriented .NET app.

C# is the language you can take all the way from your first "Hello" to a job. It powers Unity, the engine behind hits like Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Among Us and Pokémon GO; it runs banks, hospitals, airlines and thousands of companies on .NET; and with ASP.NET Core it drives some of the fastest web back-ends in the world, including Stack Overflow itself. .NET is free, open source and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and C# was named TIOBE Language of the Year 2023. This beginner course uses the newest tools (.NET 10, C# 14, VS Code with the C# Dev Kit) and modern C# from the very first line. No programming experience needed. You install .NET and write your first program, then learn variables, types (and why money is always a decimal), strings and user input, decisions with switch expressions and pattern matching, loops, methods, arrays, lists and dictionaries. You learn to read compiler errors, handle exceptions and hunt bugs with the VS Code debugger instead of guessing. Then you master object-oriented programming the C# way: classes, properties, records, inheritance, polymorphism, interfaces, enums, and the difference between value and reference types. Finally you save and load your data with files and JSON. All along, you build ThingKeeper for Boomerang, a neighbourhood Library of Things where people borrow drills, tents and a much-wanted waffle iron, until it becomes a complete multi-file application with loans, late-fee policies, statistics and JSON storage. Every lesson has a main video, a "more examples & common pitfalls" video, a quiz after each video and a hands-on lab you can run online, with full solutions to compare. Expect "pause and find it" moments, predict-the-output challenges, find-the-bug missions and a ladder that has been overdue since 2021.
